San Francisco, United States

Climate change, the rise of urbanization, the shifting weight of the developing world, and the increasing scarcity of resources are all causing us to rethink the way we plan and design places. This is why AECOM is expanding the reach of architecture and design, looking at the bigger picture of urban, environmental, transport and social systems. Our purpose is to create, enhance and sustain the world’s built, natural and social environments. Being a designer at AECOM means being part of an exciting global network that works on projects of real impact. Our architects, landscape architects and urban designers generally work in collaborative studios. While each design studio is different – with unique strengths, distinct personalities and foci – they are all part of a network that connects expertise with one another, as well as the wider family of AECOM disciplines in engineering, infrastructure, environment, construction and consultancy. This connectivity allows access to design and technical skills and diverse perspectives and methods of research that are generally not found in the typical design firm. The result is a smarter way of working and projects that are increasingly more influential in shaping the lives of communities across the globe. It is not uncommon for a landscape architect in San Francisco to be redesigning the streetscapes of a million person city in China; or for a team of urban designers in London to be tackling urban liveability issues for the government of São Paulo. A few interesting facts about us:- We are the only practice to masterplan back-to-back Olympic Games: London 2012 and Rio 2016.- We currently have 108 LEED certified and 234 LEED registered projects.- We are deeply committed to reducing the world’s dependence on fossil fuels by increasing the energy efficiency of buildings.- The Loyola Marymount University William H. Hannon Library was named by CNN as one of its 10 Standout Buildings in its ‘Rebuilding America’ series.- Our winning entry for the masterplan and urban design for the Rio 2016 games was chosen from 60 submissions worldwide. - We hold the world’s most AutoCad licenses.- In the past two years, we have become the world’s most awarded landscape architect, picking up national awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the American Planning Association (APA), the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the (UK) Landscape Institute, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA) and the Singapore Institute of Planners (SIP).- AECOM’s design arm was created in 2009 out of some of the world’s leading design firms including DMJM H&N, EDAW and Ellerbe Becket.
