CAB ARCHITECTES
Paris, France
We've worked together for more then ten years. This collective design process permits us to eradicate any personal sentimentality and seek out a neutral stance and certain abstraction in our projects. The transformation of the Jules Ferry school in Cannes united us and since then, most of our work has been situated in the Alpes-Maritimes. We've tried to forge a shared path that would lead us from project to project, and where common threads would be the territory, the landscape and our own research into the essence, "aroma" of the south. From the elementary school we built in Beausoleil to the apartments in the village of Eze, we've aimed to conceive buildings that don’t explicitly demonstrate their function. This work at "six hands" has led us to re-visit local archetypes such as highway overpasses, agriculture terracing ("restanques"), retaining walls, and carnation greenhouses amongst others. We attempt to create generous, silent buildings that resonate with their sites and the searing Mediterranean light.
