Without the luxury of knocking down walls and reconfiguring rooms, how can one create a different and distinct spatial experience within an apartment unit? How can one rethink, reuse and refresh what already exists in the space without retaining the old aesthetic? How does one sidestep thematic design trends and instead, place focus purely on a response to functional requirements? Form then follows function. The client for this is, after all, the designer herself. Having already lived in this apartment for over ten years, the client-designer examined these questions when it became a necessity to renovate.
