Nestled in the traditional Hutongs of Beixinqiao, Beijing Morning Children’s Photography Studio is a 400-square-meter interior renovation project designed to create a playful yet functional space seamlessly integrated with the original photography studio. The project combines the themes of “children” and “photography” to inspire a boundless and imaginative environment that echoes children’s innate curiosity. Our vision was to craft a mysterious, dreamlike space that transports young visitors to a world beyond the ordinary.
The studio’s layout was conceived as an interconnected series of “egg shells,” offering multiple photographic perspectives within a cohesive spatial flow. Each section has been thoughtfully designed to provide an immersive experience where space, time, and orientation are redefined. Faced with budget constraints, we implemented a cost-effective construction approach that brought the concept to life using bamboo as the primary material. A network of 47 standard circular and elliptical shapes forms the studio’s structure, intersecting at subtle angles to create natural junctions.
Bamboo’s natural curvature allowed us to connect these junctions seamlessly, layered with gypsum boards to complete the form. This approach reduced construction costs and expedited project completion. The new space embodies a unique fusion of creativity and culture, injecting fresh vitality into the urban fabric of Beijing’s historic district.
