"The Carney Library is the centerpiece of one of the most significant experiments in campus planning and Brutalism. Architect Paul Rudolph designed the entire University of Massachusetts Dartmouth between 1962-1974. Since then, the University's educational paradigms evolved beyond the library's ability to support them. It was completely re-planned and expanded with the goal to "transform [it] into a modern hub of knowledge creation, dissemination, and interaction envisioning" an "intellectual & scholarly hub." Staff agree the building now allows them to "grow and change as teaching and learning styles evolve".
