The site concept for Cove Hollow Farm was realized through a competing dichotomy of preservation and new construction. A historic 19th century saltbox was to be rehabilitated and relocated to act as the family’s new guest house. LDG's task was to accommodate the more expansive, glassy main residence designed by Architecture Outfit, within the landscape. Ultimately, the broader landscape and more intimate garden spaces would become the key fabric uniting these juxtaposing pieces of architecture. A laid back, simple entry moment of crushed gravel and crisp privet hedges establish the initial approach to the residences.
Passing through the first garden gate, over-sized slabs of domestic limestone and flowing beds of native grasses lead to the main entrance. An elegant allee of Natchez Crape Myrtles creates a dramatic connection between the main house and guest house. The 55’ long custom pool and chaise lounge terrace float amidst a vast lawn panel. Linear stepping stone paths create sweeping vistas and axes through the garden, bringing a striking visual connection that spans from the landscape through to the interiors of the homes.
An al-fresco dining garden sits adjacent to the lush vegetable and cut flower beds, with a fire bowl and outdoor kitchen also sited nearby. Custom pots crafted by Atelier vierkant in Belgium are filled with mature Citrus trees and Mediterranean annuals.
