The Spris Cafe (28 sqm) is located in Tehran, surrounded by Iranian handicrafts shops, and adjacent to the Iranian Handicrafts Organization building. Considering the small size of the project and its location, which is famous for Iranian handicrafts shops, the site's urban context inspired the architects to transform traditional building elements into an architectural interior space. At first in designing the spatial diagram, the materiality is based on an integrated geometry that continues from outside to inside.
The next step was to consider a ventilation system for the kitchen, linking this space to the outside while remaining invisible from the inside. The diagram also introduce a morphology of brick an light settled based on the 3D diagram. One of the main issues was creating a visual variation of the form in a small space. In this concept, the situation of visitors in relation to the project is significant in order to understand the form as they can differently perceive the composition of colors on the bricks regarding to their position.
The turquoise blue glazed side of the bricks are facing south shaped with the integrated geometry of brick laying that was created by 3D diagram. the choice of material is inspired from Iranian traditional architecture to introduce an identity for the project and avoid using variety of materials to emphasize the integration of the form. The lightening of the project is formed by the lamps provided in the gaps in between the joints of bricks which is inspired by Iranian traditional architecture which translated into a modern language of design.
At last the goal was to develop a simple technique for the construction so every builder would be able to achieve result in a short period of time by following the step by step method introduced for the project.
