Hangzhou LOFT49 Regeneration

LOFT49 was formerly an industrial park along the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal. In the recent development vision of the government, LOFT49 as an urban industrial design unit ushered in a new opportunity. The adaptive reuse of two industrial buildings, which are targeted to display historical relics and hold public events, as well as function as the hub of an urban park. The restructuring of the program creates a distinct zoning by the positioning of industrial artifacts to exhibit the past itself. The large-span building expands outward as the new top construction shelters the original truss and roof framework, which accommodates events and shows on the ground and serves as the city plaza on the roof. The multi-story building emphasizes inward development by extending the retail store and studio by utilizing a number of the tiny boxes in the top volume's multipurpose design, and the new stairway arranges visitor circulation from outside to the remaining display, sky garden, and shops.
