Located at Central & Western District Promenade (Central section) adjoining Tamar Park and with the prominent HK government headquarters in the background, this urban park seating is meant to be a special statement as well as a design solution. Not only does it serve functional and aesthetic purposes; it also conveys a much-needed message of happiness to encourage positivity in a city that repeatedly fell short on the global ranking of happiness level. Inspired by paper-folding(origami) and paper-cutting (the two art forms that have long been used in expressions of hopes for happiness), adorned with artistic motifs of the Chinese character for “happiness” and “happy icons” created by local primary schools students (from the things that make them happy), the seating serves to inspire us to seek happiness in the little things and moments in life.
