Heavybit Industries, a new curated community for cloud software developers, is designed as a series of architectural interventions inserted into an existing three-story
warehouse shell. The interventions define space, accommodate program and work materially
with the client’s concept of heavy physicality coupled with the ephemerality of
the cloud. Along with the design of the overall Heavybit project, IwamotoScott
produced three installations as design-build projects-within-the-project: Rope Room, HexCell Fabric ceiling, HexCell Steel light.
The latter two play on the company's hexagonal logo - as does an applied window film graphic we designed for the ground floor.The design includes the following on the ground floor: a multi-functioning, stacked plywood platform which accommodates reception, lounge, meeting bar, stair landing and stage for presentations; an adjacent communal dining / meeting space; a main conference room housing the HexCell Fabric ceiling installation, with walls of reclaimed barn wood and glass; a suspended central stair fabricated in steel plate; a communal kitchen with steel plate island/bar with the HexCell Steel light sculpture above. The second floor includes several pods of workstation tables; three meeting rooms with walls of steel framing and Polygall; lounge meeting/working space; a felt cushioned window bench.
The third floor provides more pods of workstation tables; two more pods of workstation tables; two steel framing/Polygal meeting rooms, lounge/meeting/working space; and centrally located is the Rope Room meeting room installation.
