Hello Wood started as an art camp in 2010 for students in architecture and design and has grown into a unique international project involving more than 20 universities and 30 countries. The program welcomes 150 university students and young professionals yearly from Sweden to the United States who work in teams for 8 days. Teams are made of 6-8 students, mixing different forms of art, nationalities and institutions, lead by experienced, successful workshop leaders, their concept is developed with the team members and followed by the realisation of the concept.
Every team works with 3-4 m3 of wood. We cooperate with several universities, including Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest, TU Delft ot Angewandte Vienna. The results of the program are published internationally and also can be seen by thousands of visitors of Sziget Festival in Budapest where the installations are exhibited every year. Besides the university program, Hello Wood organises architecture and design camps for children also.
All work produced here carries two attributes: it's mostly from wood and it's characterized by an interplay of art and social commitment. Hello Wood integrates various fields of architecture and design; it creates community and encourages talent. We believe that the camp can complement higher education by focusing on learning based on making, gaining unique types of knowledge in ways that are inherently impossible in formal education. Making architecture itself is the key tool of learning. Our goal is to create a possibility for exchanging knowledge through intense team work: designing and constructing together.
It is a great opportunity to break down walls between different generations and backgrounds, to connect in ways that are beyond the walls of universities. Moreover, the program connects the laic viewer wth the designer community as well.
