In this series of photos and video, Jim Stephenson documents the construction and completion of 'Trailer' by Invisible Studio in Wiltshire, England. Trailer is an open source, relocatable, low cost home designed to be built from materials at hand in as simple a manner as possible. The photos span a ten month period of prototyping and construction by Invisible Studio as a wheeled 'bogey' is positioned in the woods, then the home is built onto it using timber and corrugated fibreglass and steel from the surrounding area.
Finally, the 'bogey' is removed until Trailer needs to be relocated. The building is insulated with scavenged insulation, the doors were sourced from a skip, and the roof lights were trade ‘seconds’. The project represents what could be the first in many of these trailers built around the world, as the plans are open source and available to anyone. It is essentially a kit of parts for any self builder to improvise around or easily adapt. While conceived as a domestic space, it could easily function as a workspace or something else.
