In addition, the lack of the surrounding circulation system and supporting infrastructure had led to a decline in the district. With a footprint of 35.4 hectares (87.5 acres), the project consists of Jiaxing Train Station, two plazas and the renovated People’s Park. The design places the busy transportation junction underground, thus allowing the People’s Park to radiate through the scheme into the city and form an urban oasis. The reconstructed station is to be rebuilt at 1:1 scale after careful discussions with scholars and experts to restore an accurate relationship.

It will become the Jiaxing Railway History Museum on completion. In contrast with the busy infrastructure beneath, the park is a place of calm, bringing the city center back to the people. The scheme also places retail functions underground, while sunken courtyards connect the underground commercial space with parkland above. A new retail area is created at the south of the station, enclosed by public lawns that can host events, festivals, concerts or markets. A wide variety of functions and services are interconnected with each other.

Visitors at street level can enter and exit the transport hub in an efficient manner, while other persons meander through the park, visit the railway museum, or explore the commercial area before embarking on the journey.
