Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum is located in the center of Jingdezhen historic district, adjacent to the Ming and Qing imperial kiln ruins. It is a national museum with special significance and a key project of Jiangxi Province. The building area of the museum is 10,370 square meters, which is mainly divided into the ground floor and the underground floor. Main functions include: permanent exhibition, exchange exhibition, auditorium, amphitheater, multi-function hall, bookstore/souvenir shop, tea/cafe, restoration room, administrative office, storage, loading dock, and etc.
The museum comprises more than half a dozen vaults based on the traditional form of the kilns. On the lower level, indoor and outdoor spaces are inter connected. Each of the vaults and courtyards, and together with the first floor forms a three-dimensional space with a strong local cultural grounding. The Imperial Kiln Museum is not only a theme museum, only the Imperial Kiln porcelain relics are displayed here; it is also a borderless museum. With the help of information technology, it links the imperial kiln porcelain collected by major museums around the world, highlighting the significance of Chinese porcelain culture in the history of human civilization.
