To embody Japanese tradition within the space, the idea emerged to illuminate rattan crafted by artisans from a specialist store in Hiroshima since 1926. This particular rattan is intricately woven using the advanced techniques of these craftsmen. Traditional rattan is commonly used in Japan as a framework for items like chairs.
However, I envisioned creating a unique spatial accent by illuminating the intricacies of the rattan weave crafted by these skilled artisans. This approach highlights the contrast of the rattan within the space and enhances its overall beauty. To attach rattan to oak partitions, I secured it with brass frames, enhancing the space's beauty through the reflection of light. Achieving a fantastical illumination required meticulous adjustments to the distance between the rattan and the light source. Balancing the light was crucial; too much intensity risked creating a dazzling effect, while too little hindered the effective expression of the rattan's beauty.
