Seafaring Spirits • Festivity • Poetic Recollection From an imaginative interpretation of the songs, music, and celebratory rituals of the sea people along the Andaman coast, Studio Locomotive repurposed a vacation house into 'Laku Beach Club' on Coconut Island, Phuket that resonates with the vivacious recollection of their seafaring experiences and deep reverence for nature and ancestral wisdom, with 'Laku' translating to 'Rhythm of A Song' in Urak Lawoi indigenous language. Our intention was tuned toward reflecting their life-sustaining practices and respects into a re-interpretation of raw assembling methods, handcrafted forms, organic materials, and a spectrum of natural hues—to cherish their relationships and adaptation to thrive on the abundance of the sea and fruits of the motherland.
