The LifeEdited apartment began in late 2010 when Graham Hill, founder of the popular environmental new-site Treehugger.com, launched a competition to find the smartest way to design his New York City studio apartment. The apartment was to be a demonstration of the "luxury of less"--showing people that they could have more money, health and happiness with less stuff, space and energy. He had a big program for the compact space: it had to have dinner seating for 10, proper sleeping quarters for 2 guests, a great home office, home theater and be extremely energy efficient.
