The regional community culture grows with the legacy of the forestry culture. It will be a living and breathing historical village. Repurposing and preservation of the charcoal factory faced several issues in functional conflicts, energy consumption and spatial expression. By creating two independent boxes the function conflicts and the energy issues were resolved. The facade elements were modified to allow more interaction with visitors as well as keeping the original context. The design intended to contrast new and old materials, introducing new functions to transform old spaces, creating a dialogue between new and old buildings.

We hope this dialogue can continue, incorporating the spirit of environmental design to ensure the sustainability of the site and Taiwan’s forestry cultural legacy.
