"The new concourses are conceived as a series of pavilions and canopies that are complementary to the Streamline Moderne historic terminal. The new pavilions are anchored by the historic terminal and form an outdoor "meeters and greeters" plaza which is lined by an allee of palm trees. The design of the plaza and the connecting airside garden emphasize the connection to the symmetrical historic terminal, and provide a way finding element for passengers. The concept of discrete pavilions came about as a response to the budget and square footage limitations imposed by the project.
