Lastly, the existing structure had circulation issues, with many spaces overlapping in function and people. The requirements were to maintain existing structure and repurpose its use as office. The extension was to include waiting area for farmers, rice grading station, meeting rooms, and canteen. To integrate the existing building with extension, the repurposed office building was screened by perforated steel sheeting. Circulation was improved with the use of a curved block wall. Curving wall allowed for greater wall space to accommodate a number of entrances and windows for service points where farmers could receive payment.
The second floor was constructed for future use as more office space and rice laboratory, and has connection to the canteen’s green court through a dome shaped skylight. To issues of water penetration and dust exclusion, a custom made triangular brick was used for exterior walls. Brick has a zig zag profile so that only 50% of the surface is exposed to water and dust- think of an elevation of stacked 45 degree roofs as a wall. Zig zag bricks were omitted during the laying process to create interesting patterns.
This feature allow breezes that flow over the water give ventilation to canteen. Immediately outside spaces were created to allow workers to relax and enjoy the view. Client Name: Tawin Lorphoonpol Client Title: president Client Organization: lorphoonpol ricemill co.,Ltd.
