Madrone Ridge

Nestled into a promontory overlooking the valley in Sonoma County is Madrone Ridge. The design, inspired by its natural surroundings, caters to a young family with a strong connection to the site. Designed with rigorous attention to detail, the residence consists of three pavilions interconnected by breezeways which interlink three copper clad volumes that interlock with the landscape. The copper cladding, was initially chosen for its resilience, low maintenance, and visual relationship to the surrounding Madrone trees. An innovative use of downturned roof overhangs provides shading in summer through perforated panels segments which were carefully coordinated to align with the exposed structure. The copper skin, which highlights the buildings engagement with the surrounding trees creates a captivating interplay of light and shadow, which lend a heightened sensory quality to each of the spaces of the home.
