P.E.G is crafted from warm, matte-finished Baltic Birch plywood and acrylic panels and is embedded with vibrant RGB LED lights. A simple on-off switch activates the wall-sized game board, which can be programmed to various interfaces and interactions. An installed camera transforms the wall into a dynamic “digital mirror,” reflecting children’s movements as they play and explore. Beneath the surface, P.E.G. utilizes open-source software for its animation, providing opportunities to create new programs and games.

The LED display and sensor array are also powered by microcontrollers that communicate with the main software. Built through months of prototyping, JA tested custom circuit boards and assembled components by hand, creating an end result that is both technologically powerful and beautifully crafted. P.E.G. is also intended by JA to evolve with the library’s community, opening the door for future workshops where older children and teens can learn to code their own games and content for the wall. Serving as an engaging path to learning, creativity, and collaboration, P.E.G. brings the Edmonds Library’s children’s section to life.

The installation encourages material interaction and cooperative play, creating an inspiring and educational space for young visitors and their families.
