SOCIAL HOUSING and PIXEL-FARMING: Appointed by Mayor Renzo Macelloni, Maria Alessandra Segantini, Partner and Creative Director of C+S Architects is tackling depopulation by combining social housing with regenerative agriculture. The project reimagines rural living through a model of micro-farms and pixel-farming—small, diverse plots ensuring high-yield, sustainable food. At the urban scale, circular woods, irrigation basins, and restored rural buildings shape a productive, biodiverse landscape. Architecturally, twelve raw-earth social homes reinterpret Tuscan farmhouses using innovative, low-carbon materials like 3D printing, wood, and oxidized zinc. Prefabricated like recyclable kits, these homes foster multicultural, multi-generational communities rooted in both tradition and innovation. Segantini, inspired by her childhood in Emilia Romagna, sees this model as a fusion of ecological farming, inclusive design, and circular construction. Named Land-CR.AF.T.ED, the project aims to regenerate the land while cultivating cultural belonging and food sovereignty—offering a new vision for Italy’s small towns as vibrant, sustainable places for future generations.
