To the north of the site is a future development that promises bustling activity with new office buildings and residential complexes. To the south, the train station is surrounded by agricultural plains, canals, and a small town with local community facilities such as a church. The importance of canals and agriculture was very apparent from the start of the project. The project was envisioned as a gateway to Qingpu that intersects infrastructure, innovative architecture, and agricultural landscape.

Creating Ecological Architecture for a Sustainable Future While wood structures are still relatively uncommon in China, a glued-laminated timber structure integrated with light steel structure is dynamically expressed throughout the train station's interior. The goal is to build the most ecological and low-carbon metro station in China, with a park-like interior atmosphere, and an aim to set a new standard for environmentally conscious design for infrastructure. We implemented environmentally friendly technologies and utilized low-carbon strategies such as adopting glue laminated timber structure (GLT), local sourcing materials, prefabricated wall panels, natural ventilation platform.

The station platform interior is infused with trees that creates a microclimate, contributing to improved air quality and overall well-being for passengers. This will be the first station in China to integrate greenery into the train experience to create a healthier environment. The station also utilizes environmentally friendly technologies, such as natural ventilation systems and solar panels on the roof. Locally fabricated materials are also prioritized to minimize transportation-related emissions and support the local economy.

Agricultural Landscape integrated with Rural Scenery to form Urban Landscape In response to the natural geography and features of Qingpu, the landscape becomes integrated with the rural agricultural scenic landscape just adjacent to the site. The project embraces the region's rich agricultural heritage and the beauty of its natural surroundings. Moreover, the project aims to immerse individuals in a unique and captivating experience that seamlessly blends nature, infrastructure, and agriculture. The train station becomes a gateway to the natural beauty of the region, allowing passengers to engage with the surrounding landscape.

The result is a seamless coexistence of the artificial and natural, where infrastructure becomes an extension of the landscape rather than an imposition. Innovative Architecture/Infrastructure as Floating Gateway The station showcases a layered system of structural elements that are not only functional but also aesthetically celebrated throughout the train platform. The structural system comprises an intricate interplay of materials, including steel columns, glued-laminated timber, ETFE membrane, and clear acrylic panels.

This combination allows for a harmonious balance between strength, durability, and visual appeal. The steel columns provide robust support, while the glued-laminated timber adds a touch of natural warmth and sustainability to the design. The lightweight ETFE membrane and acrylic panels serve as a weather protection layer. This approach minimizes waste and exemplifies the project's commitment to sustainability and efficiency. The station's light roof assembly instills a gentle and flowing geometry that pays homage to the meandering rivers of Qingpu.

This not only creates a visually captivating form but also establishes a strong connection to the surrounding natural landscape.
