The project consists of two buildings — The Cabin and The Barn — arranged in an L-formation to create a series of protected outdoor spaces. Living and sleeping areas are accessed independently from the exterior, reinforcing the informal, nature-immersed character of the retreat. The Barn provides a large flexible space for gathering and games, and a breezeway for shade and passage. Indoor and outdoor spaces are carefully curated for the summer climate through deep roof overhangs, generous decks, and a variety of shaded zones.

An outdoor shower and bathing area create an informal spa space, while the low-lying structures allow for a seamless connection between meadow and interior. Material choices reflect the rugged context and coastal exposure. Rough-sawn cedar cladding on the exterior is left untreated to weather to silver, while inside, the same boards are stained a soft grey to create a calming retreat from the sun. Durable, farmstead-inspired furnishings reinforce a casual, low-maintenance atmosphere. The result is a warm, robust, and flexible compound where indoor and outdoor living blend effortlessly.

Designed for long summer stays and spontaneous gatherings, the final design fosters connection — to land, family, and the unhurried rhythms of island life.
