San Francisco State University, George and Judy Marcus Hall for the Creative Arts

In 2011, the former College of Creative Arts – of which the Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts (BECA), Music, and Theatre and Dance were a part – merged with the former College of Humanities to become the Marcus Hall. The Creative Arts Building (CAB) was replaced in four phases, and the complex of four buildings are located on two adjacent sites. SFSU retained Mark Cavagnero Associates to conduct a Site and Program Confirmation Study prior to beginning Schematic Design. The Marcus Hall, Phase 1 occupies a portion of the Tapia Triangle site along with Phase 2 project as the new Center for Arts and Media (CAM). The new building includes all of the BECA program as well as some interdisciplinary lecture space. The project is conceived as a flexible learning and production environment for teaching electronic media capture, editing and broadcast. The project was certified LEED Gold in 2023.
