Despite its dynamic appearance, the curved, apparently floating, shell blends into the adjoining landscaped park, and becomes a shining landmark of the city, especially at night thanks to a state-of-the-art lighting concept. To ensure smooth running before, during and after a game event, a sophisticated orientation system has been developed for the area around the football stadium, guiding visitors safely and simply to the stadium via various circulation nodes. Four generous ramps lead spectators to the large piazza surrounding the stadium - the "pedestal" of the stadium - which encourages guests to stroll and linger within its many shops and communal areas.

From the piazza, visitors can access an upper level via a multitude of staircases. Here too, there are shops as well as the entrances to the stadium interior, the seats and the VIP lounges which are arranged to follow the curved roof shape. A translucent, inflatable air cushion construction made of an ETFE membrane serves as a protective roof over the stands, and the lighting concept of the stadium is integrated into the roof construction.
