In 2008, Singapore’s Housing and Development Board (HBD) commissioned Soo K. Chan and his firm, SCDA Architects, to explore new possibilities in public housing design in Singapore. In response, Mr. Chan, recipient of Singapore’s inaugural President’s Design Award, has designed a high-design public housing project, SkyTerrace@Dawson, which will be completed in 2015. Mr. Chan’s design solution embodies three key ideas: housing in a park, connectivity to surroundings, and multi-generational living. In response to the first two key ideas, the project site will have seamless connectivity to greenery on three sides.
