The design of the CIASMB Music Center for Social Action was conceived as part of our commitment and previous experience with the Fundacion del Estado para el Sistema Nacional de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela (Fesnojiv) and their aim to develop a future music complex to expand the building where the national network of youth orchestras is currently based. The concept design of 3 new theaters and above a music school is based on integrating the cultural complex with the “Los Caobos” park and the larger, citywide scale. The spatial distribution of the project elements is a coherent combination of enclosed private spaces like the halls and the music school along with open and public spaces of the theaters. The music school was designed as a separated volume from the public areas without harming the perception of the building as an entity or its operational function of containing more than 4,000 people. The technical details of the sun shading devices and roof solar panels create an architectural project committed to environmental considerations through clean energy generation and consumption. The linear sequence of the building is developed through a series of events and programs across the different levels of the building, using the ramp as the main component that connects the space from the main street and the park to the school of music. New connections between the boulevard and the park, which pass through the building, guide students and pedestrians to enrich public amenities such as cafés, an audio library and a bookstore.
