SOPREMA

The sustainable design of SOPREMA’s state-of-the-art facilities for waterproofing materials is one of the few industrial projects in Canada to have obtained a LEED v4 certification. With a 12% reduction in global warming potential, its green building leadership demonstrates how an industrial vocation doesn’t need to be at odds with the environment, or with having a striking design. Built from recycled steel and local materials, the plant’s integrated alternative energies are coupled with biophilic features such as sunlit floor-to-ceiling windows opening to green vistas from its offices to heat recovery systems for its production processes. Outside, the structure features a lush inner courtyard and a hybrid reflective vegetated roof with a terrace and garden for rest areas. From atop the latter, open views onto its grounds’ landscape can be seen, designed to promote local biodiversity and heat island reduction with two accessible ponds for stormwater management and planted trees. https://lemay.com/projects/usine-soprema/
