Cities need more accessible and reconfigurable construction strategies to foster the culture of dynamic placemaking in the context of ephemeral and transitory programs in our urban experience. Stick Snap Stack is an alternative construction system to offer such a resilient construction framework. The system utilizes the simplicity of ‘stacking’ inspired by the traditional wood joinery method. Without bonding agents, the system uses a ‘snapping’ induced interlocking system for the unique stacking mechanism.
The geometry of the centerpiece can be fabricated to shift the stacking angle, while modularized three legs of the assembled unit block interlock with other blocks to complete a rhombohedral unit cell acting as a self-supporting structural ‘module’. This module can be aggregated in multiple directions to construct structural framing. The system enables people to construct variable structures while reducing the need for skilled labor, and it also enables disassembly at the end of the program's lifespan for reuse in other structural supports.
Stick Snap Stack: Reconfigurable Stacked Lattice System aims to explore the reconfigurability of the stacking system as a mode of broad sustainability of our built environment. 도시의 다양하고 역동적이며 빠르게 나타났다가 사라지는 공간과 행위의 요구를 수용하기 위해서 우리는 더 쉽게 이용할수 있고 누구나 사용할 수 있는 공간 만들기에 대한 전략이 더 필요합니다. Stick Snap Stack 은 그런 요구에 부응할 수 있는 대안으로서의 건축 시스템입니다. 이는 ‘쌓기’라는 쉽고 원초적인 형태 만들기에 전통목조건축의 이음과 맞춤의 디테일을 접목함으로써 못, 볼트, 접착제와 같은 매개체 없이 ‘snap’ 되어서 서로 끼워지는 독특한 방식을 사용합니다. 한 블록을 만드는 가운데 있는 파트는 유기적인 형태로 쌓일 수 있도록 제작될 수 있으며 한 블록의 정형화된 세 다리가 다른 블록들의 다리와 엮이면서 3차원 마름모꼴의 모듈을 완성합니다. 이 구조적으로 완전한 모듈들이 쌓여서 원하는 전체 형태를 만들게 됩니다. 전문적인 기술 없이 누구나 블록과 모듈을 만들 수 있으며 사용이 끝난 후에는 쉽게 분해되어서 다른 용도로 쓰일 수 있습니다.
