The Sennheiser Soundscape is a retail destination in the Oculus at the World Trade Center (NYC), that aims to capture the purity, dynamism and drama of sound. The Soundscape was designed to create a sculptural landmark that conveys Sennheiser’s design and engineering-forward emphasis. The Soundscape organizes a series of experiential spaces for sampling and purchasing a curated collection of Sennheiser’s state-of-the-art headphones. Key architectural elements were designed to bring Sennheisers brand and products to life in an unforgettable way.
The Sound Path - a minimalistic gateway that cuts through the Soundscape to create a more personalized and controlled listening experience. The Sound Path was our way of creating an intimate and controlled listening space within the bustle of the Oculus. Sennheiser’s brand values high quality sound above all else, so providing a controlled environment for users was essential for the experience and to express the brand’s core belief. The Sound Surface - a plinth that wraps the Soundscape - is for users to sample a curated selection of Sennheiser’s premium headphone collection.
It was imperative to allow people to sample the headphones because Sennheiser believes that product performance is the ultimate sales tool and once experienced, the quality is understood. There is no fluff in their products, only performance and to reflect that the Sound Surface is clean, minimal and works with any device which ensures a personalized, high quality experience. Another key architectural element was designed to tell Sennheiser’s story from past to present. The Heritage Cube is an exhibition space which displays rare objects from Sennheiser’s celebrated audio engineering history.
The interaction of the clean-lined architectural elements and the fluidity of the Soundscape act as a physical embodiment of what is at Sennheiser values at it’s core: the purity of sound.
