"The city of Beijing as a worldwide architecture laboratory has a lot of crazy works of different famous architects such as the Bird's Nest Stadium, the Water Cube, and the CCTV headquarters and so on. The display of complexity, novelty and self-personality becomes the common state of city's architecture in most cases, on the contrary, a building who arouses people to focus on the daily life will become the unexpected instead. The history and tradition gives the city a lot of valued treasure, however, the fast manufacture and construction make the city as complicated as possible.
For such a city, a pure and simple volume will become the unexpected. Architects often focus on the possibility and creativity of the future and the city becomes more and more far away from us with different kinds of novel and complicated buildings as a result. We hope our design will arouse people to cognize the identity of the city: the immortal, the solemn and the respectful for the daily life. The site with a complicated architecture landscape locates on the east of the Beijing Railway Station and just close to the Ming Dynasty City Wall Relics Park.
The building will show its uniqueness and become outstanding by a pure and super-scale form. We hope that our building will have two contrastive architecture expressions: the southern side with pure and complete form facing the high-speed train and the northern side with the volume more close to the Hutong and quadrangle courtyards welcoming visitors by walk. The identity of city will become a part of exhibition with the existing art pieces together to form an experiencing process with different senses of visiting speeds."
